Detention on Nauru

NAURU REGIONAL PROCESSING CENTRE

The tiny pacific island of Nauru houses one of Australia’s Regional Processing Centres, where those seeking asylum from Australia have been transferred.

“The quality of food is 0%, and there [is] not enough nutrition and protein and vitamins in our food and we don’t have any access to cook food! Our kids are growing up – it’s time for growing up for them. Their body needs food but unfortunately there is not enough.”

– Refugee living on Nauru

Not only are general living conditions incredibly harsh, these people have very limited access to nutritious food.

Despite being a tropical island, it is very difficult for the refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru to access nutritious food. It is often expensive, or poor quality.

Sending parcels of nutritious food is a great form of practical assistance, while also showing these people that Australia has not forgotten them.

DEMOGRAPHICS

As at 30 November 2015 there were 543 asylum seekers, and up to 500 people recognised as refugees, living on Nauru (http://www.refugeeaction.org.au/?page_id=4528)
